Carol Addison Shines In Brooklyn Gospel Concert
Brooklyn, NY - In the late 70's and 80's she ruled the roost of Caribbean music as Trinidad & Tobago's,
Queen of Soul. Now, with a new attitude but with the same soul and passion, she brings her talents to a stage in New York City in a concert that will not just entertain but inspire. Considered as one of Trinidad & Tobago's national treasures, Carol Addison came on the music scene as a teenager and quickly became one of the most successful recording and performing artists in the country. She was a class act and a fixture in every major show. As such, she shared the stage with international stars including Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five, Roberta Flack, James Brown, Natalie Cole and Lionel Ritchie.
Her expansive songbook includes such signature hits as Born To Shine, Take Me Back and Imagine.
Addison migrated to the Unites States about two decades ago on a musical scholarship and took the time to hone her musical skills. She remained quiet but not inactive. Thirteen years ago her life began to take a dramatic turn. I knew all along that there was something missing in my life, says Addison, adding, there was always something pulling me. One day while traversing downtown Brooklyn the pull became stronger and Addison walked into the Brooklyn Tabernacle where she worshiped for a while. Seven years later, the pull gained full control and the born to shine star was born again.
Though Addison's family were not born-again Christians, her mother was always a praying woman. Under my mother's influence, we learned and understood the power of prayer, she says. She was also the one who said to me, you were born to shine. Those were prophetic words. Today, as I shine in the eyes of God, I know this is where I am meant to be. I simply want to reach my audience with the word of God through song, she says.
This Easter weekend New Yorkers will have an opportunity to experience some of the old and all of the new Carol Addison. In what will be her first full length gospel concert, Addison will perform in the fundraiser for her church, His Majesty International Fellowship Church, which is pastored by Steve and Donna Belgrove.
